I got an upcoming videoshoot for a newly formed tv spot...I met this lady at an event where I danced my behind off and we became friends.  So, Nov. 21st is the date for me to be featured on her show.  I like her personality--it should be a smooth show!  Ya gotta feed off the energy of the host...

Happy November 1st

I enjoyed this beautiful new day by creating new designs in the way of earrings, hats, scarves, mini bags, a choker....Even loved taking shots of my designs.  But, alas, I can't upload because at this particular libary they don't have usb ports for me to transfer my pics...

My regular library for my county are  closed on Sundays and Mondays.  This is my first time here on the computer because I have always had my laptop...but again, we do what we have to do to continue on while we wait for the laptop issue to be resolved...So, no new  pics but it's ok.  This too shall pass.

Working on ideas for baby designs....Can't wait.  Still have to get to the pets as well....

Great article: 4 Reasons You Should Sell Your Handmade Goods Locally

One of the most daunting tasks facing small businesses is selling online. Technology is changing so quickly and the internet presents new opportunities to grow your handmade business. Though opening a store front (think Etsy, ArtFire, Big Cartel) is fairly easy most independent designers and crafters find keeping up with the internet exhausting. Opening up a virtual store front for your handmade business brings on a slew of new problems that your business must address. These problems range from deciding on where to host your store to photographing products or figuring out shipping and packaging. Let’s not even begin to talk about marketing and promotion. The bottom line is selling on the internet takes time and for the independent designer time is already at a premium. That's why I suggest selling your products locally.

There are many different reasons to sell at a local farmer's market or handmade bazaar. To keep this article short I’m only going to focus on my top four reasons.

• Gain Exposure- If you are a brand new business selling locally is the perfect way to get some word of mouth going. Many crafters develop a following of loyal repeat customers that not only buy but spread the word to friends and family. This is the perfect opportunity pitch your brand and let your community know about your company. Hand out business cards or flyers to shoppers that are just browsing. Just because they aren't buying today doesn't mean they won't buy tomorrow.

• Get feedback on your products- Selling locally allows you to solicit customer feedback right on the spot. You can ask buyers what types things they are looking for. This is a good time to mentally note what types of sizes, colors or styles attract the most attention. After a while you'll get a feel for what items are most popular and you can tweak your display to accommodate that.

• People are impulse and they like to buy - How many times have you gone into a store only to browse and left with a bag? The same thing happens at craft fairs and bazaars. Customers are more likely to purchase items that they can see and interact with. If you sell jewelry have a mirror handy. If you sell skin care or bath products have a tester so the customer can try it out. In general we are all so used to getting things on demand that we don't want to leave without it. It's much easier to fill up an online shopping cart and abandon it because you have to wait a week to get it.
  

• You never know who you'll meet- I think this is the most important reason to sign up for a few local events. The networking opportunity is invaluable. You may meet a future bride that needs jewelry for her big day, a mom looking for a custom birthday cake or a store seeking new products for wholesale. The opportunities are there but you'll never see them unless you get yourself out there. Introduce yourself to other vendors. This isn’t a time to be shy. Starting a business involves risk. Don’t be afraid to test the water.

What I hope you take from this article is that you shouldn’t put all your items into one shopping cart (corny I know but I was trying to modernize a cliché). For most handmade businesses just starting out it isn’t enough to just make great products. You have to get your goods in front of customers and your local selling venue may be just the place.

Awe to the Crochet Dot Hook

I had a profitable day today designing new fiber jewelry, i.e., chokers, bracelets.  I'm enjoying expanding more into sculptural ideas, which makes it more wearable art. 

Oh, let me upload a few pics of before and after from yesterday's foragings...

It was an extremely tough day yesterday, but I am a survivor!  4 miles from home on an errand, my car overheats.  I called a place and they gave me the name of a tow truck service plus a closer shop, but they would've charged me for a diagnostic and don't believe they were extensive enough for what could've been wrong.  Called the tow truck, waited @ an hour and had my car serviced at that place; will be ready today.  I got the parts at a local pep boys within walking distance.  And, yup, I had on 4" inch heels in grass and gravel, teehee.  (Well, how would I have known my car would put me in this predicament?)  What was worse I didn't bring my crochet with me in the car, like I usually do...oh well.  That could've helped.  I had 2 of my children with me and they hugged me and told me everything would be ok.  We all slept on the couch waiting for them to check my car.  So, we walked home, which was close enough but there are hardly any sidewalks around where I live so we were careful.  Oh, some stupid woman almost hit my daughter as she was pulling out of the parking lot because she wasn't paying attention.  I saw her but I'm always looking because I am much taller than my kids--6'ft 3" in heels, hmmm.  My kids told me not to say anything--they know how fiercely I protect my kids, I don't play!

I got online at one of my local "offices" for a faster connection yesterday for about half an hour--yup, I brought my laptop along for a walk, just didn't know the challenge I would have gone through.  I'm just really surprised I didn't bring along my crochet--that's a real head scratcher for me. 

Well, today I will be taking it easy--2 of my children will walk back with me to pick up my car, but I'll wear flats today, lol  I may even stitch and walk, stitch and walk, hmmm
